Garbage Disposal Repair in Bridgeport, CT

A jammed or leaking disposal is the kind of problem you want fixed today, not next week. Most calls in Bridgeport are scheduled same-day.

Fix or replace?

Here's how we decide on the spot

Repair makes sense
  • · Jammed (we clear it and reset)
  • · Won't turn on but unit is under 5 years old
  • · Splash guard or mounting flange needs resealing
  • · Dishwasher inlet not draining
Replacement is the better call
  • · Leaking from the housing (crack in the body, not repairable)
  • · Motor hums without spinning even after reset and jam clear
  • · Unit is 10+ years old and bearings are noisy
  • · You want to upgrade to a quieter 3/4 or 1 HP unit

The two-minute fix you can try first

Before you call: check the red reset button on the bottom of the disposal. Disposals trip their own overload when they jam, and pressing the reset clears it. If the unit then hums but won't spin, use the hex wrench that came with the disposal (or any 1/4" Allen key) in the bottom center port to manually rotate the impeller. If it frees up, run cold water and try the switch again. If none of that works, that's where we come in.

When we replace, what we install

We stock InSinkErator Evolution and Badger series and Waste King L-Series units on the truck. For most Bridgeport homes a 3/4 HP unit is the right balance of power and noise. For households doing a lot of cooking, the 1 HP upgrade is worth it. We hook up the dishwasher inlet, install a new mounting assembly if needed, and test under load before we leave.

In depth

Garbage disposals are the appliance nobody thinks about until they hum, leak, or spray dirty water on a Thanksgiving morning. LuxeFix Appliance Care repairs and replaces disposals across Bridgeport and Fairfield County the same day when we have the capacity to do so, and we do the under-sink work cleanly.

The four calls we run repeatedly

Humming without spinning (jammed impeller), fully dead (tripped internal breaker or a shot motor), leaking from the top mounting flange (bad plumber's putty seal), and leaking from the bottom (housing crack, the disposal is done).

  • Hum without spin, we clear the jam, verify the impeller is not damaged, reset the internal breaker.
  • Completely dead, reset button first, then continuity on the motor and outlet.
  • Leak from the sink flange, remake the seal properly, replace the mounting hardware if corroded.
  • Leak from the disposal bottom, replace the unit. A cracked housing is not a repair item.
  • Slow drain out of the disposal, we clear the discharge and confirm the P-trap is not the actual restriction.

InSinkErator, Waste King, KitchenAid, Moen

We service and install every mainstream disposal brand. Where a customer wants a like-for-like replacement we do that; where a customer wants an upgrade (quieter, higher HP, longer warranty) we advise honestly. InSinkErator Evolution series is our most-installed unit for the money, though the Waste King L series has a legitimate place for smaller households.

What the visit looks like

We drop a mat, empty the under-sink cabinet with your permission, work cleanly, and test the unit through a full cycle including the dishwasher line if it drains through the disposal. We do not leave a wet cabinet behind, and we take the old disposal with us for recycling if you want it gone.

Cost expectations

Repair calls (jam clearing, seal remake, breaker reset with test) run $120 to $220. Full replacement including labor and unit runs $260 to $520 depending on the disposal chosen. We quote flat before any work.

The jam clear, done properly

A humming disposal is almost always jammed by something that got past the splash guard. Clearing the jam requires the correct hex key, a bottom-side rotation to break the impeller free, and a careful inspection of the impeller for the actual object rather than a blind reset. When we clear a jam we also inspect the discharge and the P-trap for anything that would have caused a second jam next week.

Under-sink plumbing that we leave better than we found it

The under-sink area often shows years of small compromises: mismatched trap parts, a slow drip on the water shutoff, a dishwasher air gap that has never worked. When we replace a disposal we address the small nearby items so the installation is genuinely complete, and we discuss any of them with you first if they add to the invoice.

Replacement rather than repair: when it is honest advice

A disposal with a cracked housing is not repairable. A disposal with a burned-out motor at ten years old is not economical to repair. In both cases we will tell you plainly that replacement is the right call, and we will help you pick a unit sized to your household and your sink configuration.

Dishwasher-to-disposal drain work

When a dishwasher drains through the disposal, the tie-in has to be correct, the knock-out plug removed, and the high-loop in place. We check all three on every dishwasher-adjacent disposal call, because a missing high-loop is a slow-motion water damage event waiting to happen.

Warranty and honest scope

Every disposal we install carries the manufacturer's warranty (typically two to seven years depending on model) plus our 90-day workmanship warranty on the installation itself. If anything about the install fails inside that window we come back at no cost.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does garbage disposal repair cost?
Most disposal calls in Bridgeport run $150–$280 including the visit, depending on whether we can clear the jam, reset the unit, or whether the motor or seals have failed and the unit needs to be replaced.
Should I repair or replace my garbage disposal?
If the unit is leaking from the housing or the motor is humming-without-spinning even after reset, replacement is usually the better call, newer 3/4 and 1 HP units are inexpensive and last 8–12 years.
Will you install a new disposal during the same visit?
Yes. We carry quality InSinkErator and Waste King units on the truck, or we'll install one you've already purchased.
Do you handle the plumbing connections too?
Yes, the dishwasher inlet, the drain tee, and the J-trap are all part of a disposal install and are included in the price.
